Matt Cannata was named offensive line coach for the Golden Lamar in January 2023, bringing experience from Charlotte, Mary Hardin-Baylor, and Texas Lutheran. The line’s improvement contributed to All-Southland Conference honors for Jevale Roberson and Elias Ripley, while helping running back Khalan Griffin finish as the league’s second-leading rusher and earn second-team all-conference honors.
Cannata’s coaching career includes roles as offensive line coach at Mary Hardin-Baylor (2022) and stints at Charlotte, Austin Peay, and Texas Lutheran, where he served as run game coordinator and recruiting coordinator. His success spans three conference championships and Charlotte’s first-ever bowl appearance in the 2019 Bahamas Bowl. At UMHB, he helped lead the Cru to a 12-2 record, a No. 3 national ranking, and a national semifinal berth.
