Abilene Christian University (ACU) has added former first-round NFL draft pick Jason Smith to its coaching staff as the new tight ends coach. Smith joins ACU from the University of North Texas, where he served as an offensive analyst working with the offensive line. He also has experience as an offensive line assistant with the Kansas City Chiefs.
ACU Offensive Coordinator Rick Bowie expressed excitement about Smith’s addition, praising his extensive experience as both a player and coach at the highest levels. “He brings a wealth of knowledge and great energy to our program, and we’re looking forward to getting to work here in Abilene,” Bowie said. Smith, a former All-America and All-Conference player at Baylor, was drafted second overall by the St. Louis Rams in 2009. He played for the Rams, New York Jets, and New Orleans Saints before retiring from the NFL in 2014. Smith expressed his enthusiasm for working with head coach Keith Patterson and contributing to ACU’s success.
