Joey Thomas, Nevada

Joey Thomas was named Nevada’s Passing Game Coordinator and Secondary Coach by head coach Jeff Choate. Thomas, a former All-American at Montana State and NFL veteran, joins the Wolf Pack staff after serving as the Senior Defense Analyst at the University of Texas. Thomas worked closely with the Longhorns’ secondary, contributing to a defense that ranked highly in 3rd-down defense, red zone defense, and rush defense. Choate praised Thomas’ technical expertise, mentorship, and reputation as a well-connected recruiter.

Before his time at Texas, Thomas coached at FAU and Fort Scott Junior College, where he excelled as passing game coordinator and special teams coordinator. His coaching career began at the high school level in Seattle, where he served as head coach at Garfield and Ballard High Schools, earning numerous accolades, including the Seattle Times’ “Star Times” Coach of the Year in 2016. A third-round pick by the Green Bay Packers in the 2004 NFL Draft, Thomas played 7 seasons in the NFL before coaching.
