Dave Plungas, Robert Morris

Dave Plungas just finished his seventh season as RMU’s assistant head coach and defensive coordinator, also coaching linebackers and leading defensive game planning. Since 2019, he’s helped the Colonials secure their first winning season in nearly a decade and produced standout players like Jamar Shegog and Aniello Buzzacco. In 2022, RMU ranked 33rd nationally in red zone defense, with Joe Casale and Sydney Audiger earning All-Big South honors.

Prior to RMU, Plungas coached at Albany, helping develop a top-10 FCS defense in 2017, and at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, where he guided the team to an ECAC Bowl appearance. As a linebacker at Albany, he recorded 246 career tackles and won three NEC titles. A Concord Township, Ohio native, Plungas holds degrees in communication and sociology and is married to Traci, an assistant volleyball coach at West Virginia University.
